ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING PROGRAM

Australia, through the Defence Cooperation Program, has been actively involved in developing the English language capability within the RCAF since 1995. This training assistance is based both in Cambodia and in Australia and involves training from the basic through to advanced levels.

While most officers and soldiers are trained at the College of Social Sciences and Languages (CSSL) of the Cambodian National Defence University (NDU), the DCP also offers to sponsor RCAF English Language Instructors and students to attend courses at the Defence International Training Centre in Melbourne, VIC. DITC courses include the Special Australian English Language Course, Advanced English Language Course, English Teaching Development Course, Cadet English Studies Award Program, and the Methodology of English Language Teaching Course.

In addition, the DCP is sponsoring a number of officers to attend English Language courses in Cambodia through the Australian Centre for Education (ACE) and other education providers offering both a Diploma Program and English for Academic Purposes program, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Course.

Since 2006 the local program has expanded to provide English Language Training opportunities to RCAF students in nine other locations within Cambodia.
