Certifying Copies of Documents

Certified Copies of Original Documents

Consular officers can provide certified copies of certain original documents.  Consular officers will only certify documents that are Australian in origin, or are intended for use in Australia.

The Embassy uses a stamp with the following wording on our certified copies: “This is a true copy of the document presented to me” This is DFAT approved wording. We won't alter it.

Should you require alternative wording, you may approach other specified professional to perform the service for you.

If your documents were issued electronically, you may be asked to forward the email from the original issuing authority or log in to a portal by using the Embassy computer at the reception during your appointment to prove the authenticity of the document.

Authorising someone to certify your documents

Please note you should be present for the Embassy to certify your documents. If you are unable to attend the appointment in person, you must write an authorisation letter to authorise another person to have the documents certified on your behalf. Please provide a document to match your signature on the authorisation letter OR email us your authorisation at [email protected].
